AC: Auteur analysis

Auteur Analysis:
Jonas Odell
Take me out – Franz Ferdinand (2004)
  • Links song to engineering and design plans on screen, which is a innovative idea when it was created and can still be viewed from an audiences perspective as a form of art.
  • Use of similar camera shots, as it switches from CU to LS, but effective as a performance piece, as it shows the band and the individual artists seperatly.
  • The colour use is very basic, by having yellows and whites it gives it an old anitique look, and with the writing it connotes the use of literature, portraying them as educated.

Thomas Tyman
C2C - Down The Road (official video starring Richie Jackson) (2012)
  • The editing used is fast paced and highly creative, the music cuts on the beats, making a smooth transition between clips.
  • The narrative is effective, as it is disjunctive of the music. Due to the music being of an electro genre, it is difficult to amplify the lyrics used, so the use of the skateboarder and editing is very effective.
  • The manipulation of time as well also is conventional of an indie track by making it different, and innovative, and works well when editing the location as well as it fits in well with the beats.

Brad Palmer and Brian Palmer
The Killers – Mr Brightside (2003)
  • The music video displays the story of an old English tale, and has a very creative use of mise-en-scene by using a modern look on the traditional the costume used. The colours used are mostly of a brighter red.
  • The video focuses around the narrative, whilst also cutting to the performance of the band.

Michel Gondry
Around the World – Daft Punk (1996)
  • A very typical daft punk look the music video, fitting in with the electronic genre of music used, with the robotic dance used.
  • There is only one location used, but due to the number of characters and props used there is a wide variety going on in the video, and through the use of close ups and long shots, the audience focus on different aspects of the video.

Butch Walker
Fall Out Boy - The Phoenix (2013)
  • The music video is a continuing story throughout their music videos in the album ‘Save Rock and Roll’ and shows the audience the power of greed, and the horror of the what some people will do to claim riches.
  • The video is a narrative, however uses Close ups and mid-shots of the band memebers singing throughout, to create a performance based music video. The video is quite of a taboo video, by including the use of torture and gore, however only implys the use, making it suitable for audiences.
